Hi,

I am not as concered about the specs of your computer, that shouldn't make that much difference with linux.

You are aware that 8.04 is outdated now too. The current version is 9.04 and the LTS (Long Term Service) is 8.10. I would recommend that you try one of those. Also when you do the install make sure that you erase all of the linux partitions or choose the option to install over all linux partitions.
