Just to clarify, when I hit F8 during the boot up process and choose SAFE MODE, it goes first to my password protected login page. After entering my user name and password, it immediately says the system is shutting down.

And so, even when choosing SAFE MODE, it does not allow me to boot up to load the desktop, but shuts down immediately.

In this scenario, am I still able to implement the suggestions that you just offered?
