Try using System Restore, and select a restore point from before the trouble started.

It's highly likely that your system might have been compromised by malware, since you were visiting the Internet using IE6. Run as complete & thorough scans as you can.

I don't recommend using IE6 on any computer whatsoever. It's just not secure enough. Make sure to visit Windows Update for any Windows/Security Updates that you might be behind on as well. IE8 can slow down older Windows XP PCs: good alternatives include Mozilla's FireFox and Google's Chrome.
