DVD Drive not reading CD's (sometimes?)

So I recently put together my very first PC (hooray for me), booted it up, it turned on and didn't catch on fire, me and my friend thought "That's awesome we made a PC without a hitch."

Little did we know that a few days later I would try using a CD-Rom to rip music to my Itunes and it decided to fail on me. The strange thing was that it seemed to install Counter-Strike Source without a problem and it was a CD-Rom, I try a few other music CD's and the same thing. So without much thought to it I just decided I would rip the music to the laptop and just transfer it with a flash drive. Anyway, a few days later I tried to install Black and White 2 which decided to install perfectly fine until I tried to load it and it just kept popping up "Please insert correct disc to play. Click ok and restart." Again I thought this was odd, only to find out that it was on CD-Rom, next day I try to load my copy of NWN1 (Again on CD-Rom) it installs all the way up to the 3rd and final disc only to crash at 98% because it cannot read the CD.

So finally I decide that it is time to take this drive back, it must be defective, I've downloaded all the drivers, etc... I get a different brand as I was worried that LG made bunk drives, so here I am today. NWN1 managed to install first night I had the drive installed, "Hooray! My problems are over," but alas they are not my drive will still NOT read music CD's.

I've tried to find drivers for this one, but cannot find anything on HP's website. Any ideas of what I can do to fix my drive?

System Specs:

HP dvd1160i 22x Multiformat DVD Writer
Intel Core 2 Quad 2.83GHz
4 GB Ram
300+ GB Hard Drive Space
Windows Vista SP1 32-Bit

Thanks in advance for any help,

Mike
