I'm running Ubuntu 9.0.4 and for the third time for me with Ubuntu the machine has reached a state where it won't boot and gets to a point where it displays an error message about initram error -16 (roughly speaking).
I'm a ubuntu newbie and i've tried a few things but this has me stumped. At the moment I can boot from a 'live cd' and see the hard disk and access the files.
As i understand it in very general terms i suspect that some kind of 'suspend image' is stopping it from booting (maybe). It seems to happen when the computer has been turned off or crashes.
I've tried 'recovery mode' from the grub menu but the same error occurs.
Is there a way to just delete of ignore this corrupted 'suspend image' and do a normal boot?
Best regards Dave

hi, my issue is sorted and i'm not sure if it helps. you can still message on this by the way, i think you should try my way if you want. i found a fedora disc lying around from my experimenting days and decided to use that so this is what i done:
- insert disc and then install (what you'll notice after completing the install is that you'll see the ubuntu distribution on the grub installer but ignore it and continue to boot into fedora)
- use the partition editor to remove the ubuntu distribution completely.
- download a new ubuntu disc because it may be something wrong with the disc.
- remove install that ubuntu disc and it may work
thats how mine worked and i've been using ubuntu 9.04 all this time since, i'm having issues with flash in firefox but everything else is beautiful
