Print Server Question
I have a D-Link DP-300U print server connected to my Qwest wireless modem. I assigned a static IP to the print server and made sure it had the same default gateway as the other computers on my network. I've got it all hooked up correctly because I can see it ON the network via my router configuration page. I can even type the IP address (for the print server) into a WEB BROWSER and access the configuration page for it. In that configuration page I'm even able to print a test page from my laptop to the printer.
The problem I'm having is that I can't seem to figure out how to add the printer as a network printer to my laptop. I've tried typing \\192.168.0.66 into the RUN box and it won't connect. I got pretty close to something at one point when I typed
\\192.168.0.66\PS-73A735 (the device name of the print server). When I did that, I got a credentials logon pop up. I couldn't figure out what the credentials would be. I tried my router's credentials and even the default passwords for D-Link devices like "admin" "password" or "admin" with no password... I wasn't sure if I was barking up the wrong tree though...
I've never had experience with a print server. With my old setup, I was able to add my printer as a network printer with no problem (as long as MY computer (which the printer is attached to) was on. My goal with the print server was for my laptop to be able to print wirelessly without needing my desktop computer to be on. Am I missing something simple? I've googled around a bit and can't seem to find anything.
