When you're working with videos, the editor usually creates a second file and several smaller temp files so that any changes you make can be undone without affecting the original. This is called non-destructive editing. Although it takes alot of disk space, it's the safest way to work.

Some other video editors work directly on the original file and don't need as much extra space, but if you make a mistake it's harder to fix.
