How do I point a remote network user to the right application on the right server? Here is the issue:
A new 'Win2k3 R2 Standard Edition' server was installed on the current network as the old server HDD had reached capacity and the server was falling apart. The new server only runs one application that holds and controls the entire customer database and acts as a small print server. Thats it. The DNS, domain and everything else is controlled by a (slighty-on-its-way-out) Win2k server. When I install the application on the Win2k server, remote users can access the database by putting the office' static IP into the application and it finds the database/server automatically. This was temporary while I built the new server. Now the new Win2k3 server holds the database and application I cannot seem to get the remote users access at all.
From my limited PC/networking knowledge, its like the old Win2k server isnt 'pointing' the remote access traffic to the right place. I dont know where to go now as I have tried everything I know. Please can someone on here help? I know all the info you might need isnt here but I will keep checking the post in case there is information anyone might need.
Basically, when you access this application locally, there is no issue what-so-ever. Remote access gets you nothing, not even a ping. I cant comment on the quality of installation/setup of the new Win2k3 server, so please assume the worst.
Any help is greatly appreciated as Im about to start pulling my hair out! I dont want to mention the name of the database program unless I have to. The reason for this is the tech support for this company is useless and I seem to know more than they do! They wont help anymore now, they say its my issue, not theirs.
