Its difficult to say without seeing it. But I would say that with the motor not attached see if there is a way to work the window up and down to be sure there is no jamming of the mechanism.
Its possible that is what caused the other motor to fail.
It sounds like one of the little rollers on the front of the window may be starting to fail or the rivet is working loose causing the roller to twist inside the track and causing a bind.
If you dont have to return the motor for a core charge maybe you can take it apart and get the piece that drives the mechanism so you have a place to hook the vice grips..
But like I said its hard without seeing it.
