I'm not sure this is the right forum for this question, but, here goes:

I have a set of audio cassettes that I want to transcribe onto CD's.

These are mono audio, all voice, - Books on Tape.

Can I patch from the headphone output of my little cassette player to the mic input of my PC directly and will that work?

I suppose I COULD put the PC's mic near the cassette players speaker, but.. I'd rather get better quality than that.

Suggestions?
