WASHINGTON (AFP) — As US President Barack Obama marked his 100th day in office, the US Congress on Wednesday approved a 3.4 trillion dollars budget for 2010 that embraces some of his top priorities.
The US House of Representatives voted 233-193 in favor of the symbolic blueprint, and the Senate followed suit later 53-43 -- with zero votes from Obama's Republican critics in either chamber.
The mammoth spending guideline, which projects vast government deficits and a swelling national debt, sets the stage for pitched political battles on issues like Obama's plans to remake US health care, battle climate change.
Lawmakers in both Democratic-controlled chambers now shift to the actual annual spending legislation for fiscal year 2010, which begins October 1.
