PS3 with Netgear WNDR3300 Router

I seem to be having constant connection issues with my PS3. It is wirelessly connected to my router, since my router is nowhere near the PS3 (and cannot be brought closer). The connection DOES work, but very inconsistently. I have the latest firmware for the router. Here are my current settings:

Router: Netgear WNDR3300
Mode: Up to 270Mbps at 5GHz & 54Mbps at 2.4GHz
11N Channel: 44/5.220GHz
11G Channel: Auto
Security: WEP (I've read that WPA doesn't work well with PS3 and NETGEAR)
Auth. Type: Auto
Enc. Strength: 64-bit
Wireless Router Radio: Enabled
SSID Broadcast: Enabled
Default DMZ Server: set to IP of PS3 (per blogs I've read on this issue)
Use Router as DHCP Server: Enabled
QoS - WMM (Wi-Fi multi-media) Settings: Enabled
UPnP - Turn UPnP On: Enabled

Any suggestions on what I need to fix/undo/add settings-wise? I feel like I'm missing something, and for a 1 bedroom apartment, it seems silly to conclude that the signal is too weak that it keeps disconnecting because of that. There must be a settings issue.

Thanks in advance for your input
