Need assistance to make this "old" pc into a media sharing server

hese are the specs of it:

Compaq Presario 5500LA

Intel Celeron @ 1.1GHz (can't remember the model, but it's kinda old)
128MB of PC133 RAM (i can get 512mb for it)
WD 80GB IDE Hard drive
Integrated video

This server would only be to store some media like pictures, music, and videos; backup files, etc. and I might give it other uses.
The problem is, that I only have one monitor and it's the one I'm currently using on my rig. So, If I set up the old PC as a server, is there a way to control the server from my rig? let's say, remote PC or a third party software like VNC?

I hope you guys can give me a hand

Thanks

EDIT: I have already installed Windows XP professional on this system. and it is conencted via wireless to a 2WIRE 2701HG ADSL modem, on this modem/router, I have all my PC's connected, as well asn an Xbox 360. What I want is, to store all my media files on this old PC, and make those media files accesible for any PC and console connected to the network.
