how to differentiate intranet IP addressing from the internet addressing

please kindly describe how to differentiate intranet Ip addressing from internet addressing
currently the available resource a router connected to a modem/gateway and a yet to be deployed windows 2003 server with many disks, how can they be raided so each can be for a different purpose,e.g DNS server, DHCP server, intranet site server and e-mail server.
what type of browser will be appropriate for an intranet and what type of firewall
