anyone?

as an update, this appears to be profile-specific as all is fine if i log onto the machine with a different user account (both the accounts have administrator rights).
also, there is nothing untoward in the HJT logs that i ran...

i guess i'll just have to delete and recreate the profile, but annoyingly that still doesn't really give me any clues as to how/why it occurred in the first place...
