Cool Tutorial: How-To create a nona-boot system (9 OS)

Hello

jessa_jr has been bugging me to do this, and I'm sick of PMs so I've decided to write this tutorial.

It will start off incomplete (of course) but I will continually be editing it to get it just right.

Firstly, you'll need installation CDs/DVDs for the following Operating Systems;
  • Mac OS X Leopard
  • Windows Vista 64-bit
  • Windows 7 64-bit
  • Windows Server 2008 64-bit
  • Linux (I will be using Ubuntu 64-bit)
  • Linux (I will be using Fedora 64-bit)
  • Solaris
  • FreeBSD 64-bit
  • OpenSolaris

Now, here's what to do.

If using MBR (most likely);
  1. Create MBR partition table
  2. Create 9 partitions, (primaries: Mac, Windows Server, Solaris)
  3. My file-system recommendations are as follows;
    • Mac - HFS+
    • NTFS - Windows (all versions)
    • Ext3 - Linux (all versions)
    • ZFS - Solaris
    • ZFS or UFS - FreeBSD
    • ZFS - OpenSolaris
  4. Check that partitioning and formatting has been done as listed above
  5. Install all OSs, in any order, as long as the primaries are installed 1st (for the boot-loaders, especially with Windows)
  6. Have fun without your nona-boot system!

If using GPT;
  1. Create GPT partition table
  2. Create 9 partitions
  3. My file-system recommendations are as follows;
    • Mac - HFS+
    • NTFS - Windows (all versions)
    • Ext3 - Linux (all versions)
    • ZFS - Solaris
    • ZFS or UFS - FreeBSD
    • ZFS - OpenSolaris
  4. Check that partitioning and formatting has been done as listed above
  5. Install all OSs, in any order
  6. Have fun without your nona-boot system!

It may look easy from the way I've set it out, however it took me a longtime to work everything out!

Good Luck!

PS: With Windows it doesn't matter which you install as primary, as long as at least 1 Windows is primary!

PPS: If you try this, and it works, please inform everyone! It's worked for me... so far!

NOTE: If for whatever reason your nona-boot setup becomes a non-boot setup, tell me, and I'll do all I can to make your non-boot nona once more!
