I ran everything as you said and haven't noticed any significant increase in performance. I am a regular user of AdAware and Spybot S&D, so the only thing new was CleanUp!. It gave me a couple more gigs of space :-).
I guess I'll chalk this one up to a heavily-used laptop. Thanks for your help anyway.
