Re: put old laptop hd in usb enclosure but...

let me see if I can explain it a bit more clearly -

Old laptop having issues, so I decided to just give up and buy a new one.

I pulled the hard drive out and put it in a USB enclosure

Plugged it in and I can see the various files, but when I clik on for example "owner" to get in the file it says access denied. It never asks me for a password at all.

I'm wondering if since I had a password on the Win XP account on the old machine if that is the reason it will not let me in. I did not forget the password it just does'nt ask for it since I am not booting up XP from the drive anymore! Anyone know how to take over ownership of a file when it is accessed via usb on a different computer?
