That could be the problem , , what ever caused the heat that melted the plastic may have shorted something in the plug . . any chance you have nother power supply you can try?

I'm using this with a 4 pin cpu power supply connector with no issues, just be sure to plug it into the correct side (right) of the 8 pin mobo connector

You could try the 4 pin in the right side and see if that lets it start
