Evil Compaq Evo n620c - Won't turn off

I recently received this laptop as a hand-me-down, and it was basically stripped of everything.

I restored it by buying another broken n620c with the parts I needed for cheap, but I don't have an AC adapter for it yet, right now im using the AC adapter from a Compaq n1020v as a temporary measure.

The second I plug it into AC power, it turns on and boots, although since I have no OS installed yet it dosen't go far. And I found out I can't turn it off, no matter how long I hold down the power button.

So far, the only way I have had to turn it off is by unplugging the AC power.

The battery is at 0% charge and I don't want to risk charging it until I have an official AC adapter so I can't verify if it will remain on when a battery is connected as well.

Any ideas what may be causing this?

Is this laptop designed to power on when plugged into AC?

Is the power button stuck on?

Is it because I am using a different AC adapter that may be causing this?

I don't mind it staying on when on AC, but if it refuses to turn off, especially with a battery installed, or even instantly turns on when a charged battery is connected, this could be a huge problem. Even if I can shut it down within Windows (a big if since I haven't installed an OS on it yet) if the power button is broken I may not be able to turn it back on this way.

Any ideas?
