Hi vadfs.
If I understand you correctly, you seem to have at least two problems.
First, you are currently running (or have installed) at least two Antivirus products: Norton Antivirus 2009 and McAfee Antivirus. That is a no-no, as they will conflict with each other. You can only run one and the other should be uninstalled.
This is what I would recommend:
1 - Be sure you have your Norton Antivirus 2009 installation disc
and Product Key handy. The Product Key sticker should be located on the back of the disc envelope.
2 - Read and follow the directions to download and
save the "Norton Removal Tool" to your desktop. You can download it from the Symantec website here:

Do not run it yet, just save it to your desktop for now.
3 - There is also a McAfee Removal tool available on the McAfee website. Unfortunately, when I try to access it for the address I get a page error. Maybe you will have better luck. If you can download it, also save it to your desktop.
4 - Turn off your modem, router, etc. to disconnect your system from the Internet for now.
5 - Uninstall the McAfee Antivirus through "Add/Remove Programs". Restart your computer. If you were able to download the McAfee removal tool and save it to your desktop, follow the directions to run it now.
6 - Double click and run the Norton Removal Tool that you previously saved to your desktop. Follow the directions and restart your computer.
7 - Reconnect your system to the Internet. This is necessary for Norton Antivirus 2009 to install properly.
8 - Insert your Norton Antivirus 2009 disc and follow the instructions to reinstall Norton AV 2009.
Hopefully if there are no other underlying problems (viruses, trojans, malware etc.), once you remove your old McAfee and Norton utilities, you should be able to reinstall Norton AV 2009 and run smoothly.
