I am glad to report, that after a few days of testing, my laptop seems to be back to normal.

Unfortunately I still have the IE7 lockup problem every now and then
, but atleast I have a *clean* system.
I dont remember doing ...... "combofix was uninstalled when you did combofix /u" bit , was that run automatically when ComboFix was run first ?
