I would choose from a good brand like Seagate, Western Digital, LaCie etc. I have had one external die on me, and it was a Comstar, doubt I'd ever get another one of those. May have just be coincidence, all manufacturer's make a bad drive now and again and there's no way of predicting when it will fail. Sticking with the big names is always the best odds of getting a reliable drive.
