Re: reinstalling sound recorder?
This will take a bit of tweaking. Go to C:\WINDOWS\inf and open the file sysoc.inf
Go to the line that says
MultiM=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,multimed.inf,HIDE,7
and change it to
MultiM=ocgen.dll,OcEntry,multimed.inf,,7
Basically just remove HIDE from that line. Make sure the two commas on both sides of the HIDE are still there. Then click file, save.
Now go to control panel (classic view), add/remove programs, add/remove Windows Components. Double click accessories and utilities, then double click multimedia. Uncheck sound recorder, then click ok, then ok, then next.
Once that's done, just do the reverse and recheck it, and sound recorder will be re-installed.
You shouldn't rule out other problems, like badly installed sound drivers, as being the cause of your problem.
