Limited or no connectivty - 10Base T Full Duplex works

Hello everyone.

Yesterday I got my modem from ATT and was quite happy that I finally got a decent internet service. I hooked it up to my laptop via ethernet and it worked great. Then I decided I wanted to hook it up to my desktop via ethernet. I turned wireless on and my laptop got great wireless signal. However, my desktop refused to connect to the modem via ethernet.

I tried everything and I got a "limited or no connectivity" with 169.254 address. I tried the VB winsock fix, the MS KB update, and all the other fixes such as power cycling the modem, updating drivers etc. I tried everything and nothing worked! I then came across a post that said to change the connection type under the properties sheet from "Auto negotiation" to "10 Base T Full Duplex"... and to my surprise, it worked!

However, I'm worried that I'm not getting the full speeds that I deserve. When I try 100 Base T full duplex I get the same error! Is there any reason I'm getting this? I'd like to get my full speeds from my ISP... so I'd appreciate a fix on this.

Thanks!
