Vista SP! reinstall Failure

Hi there,

Having a wee problem with Windows Vista SP1 on Home Premium x64 Edition. To cut a long story short:
  • Had Lord of the Rings Online (LOTRO) installed on my PC (Vista Home Premium x64)
  • Had Windows Vista SP1 installed without any problems
  • A new version of LOTRO was released on Monday (Mines of Moria)
  • When I tried to install this I 'unfortunately' left my AV / Spyware running.
  • This caused to install to fail and in addition the following stopped working / presented me with issues:
  • .NET Framework 1.1
  • Windows Vista SP1
  • Fallout 3
  • Mozilla Firefox
  • USB Codecs (related to SP1 i believe)
  • Microsoft Update (this now fails whenever i try to retrieve an update)

Anyway, I managed to fix everything apart Windows SP1, was last on my list, and had to download the 700+Mb file from microsoft. Ok, so uninstalled SP1 first, no problem. Reinstall SP1, gets to stage 3 0f 3, 99% done, last reboot and I get an error on boot to do with SmartcardCredentialProvider.dll. Vista then concludes that I'm still installing SP1, reboots and repeats the process over and over again.

So I'm stuck. How can I fix this without reinstalling Vista from scratch? Sorry I would drop a screenshot of the message except I can't get to a point where i can paste it anywhere :(
