simple network file sharing? xp

I have installed dd wrt v23 firmware on my linksys router, and connected 2 computers by wire to the router.
I have then preceeded to install a network on both computers, making sure the workgroup is the same. One pc is an xp pro( host), and one is a client. The problem is that the computers are unable to find each other in their respective workgroup browsers. I can ping the computers by ip, one from the other, but I can not see them in the local network.

I have tries A LOT, and I mean A LOT, and I just can not get them to find one another.

Here's a list of some of the things I have done

- pinging
- network installation wizard
- Manual network station detection
- Simple file sharing on/off
- Static ip / dns - dhcp settings on router
- Automatic /static ip's in windows
- Port forwarding/ static client router
- All kinds of settings in computer management
- Installation/ uninstalling of optional networking components
- registry deletion of dhcpnode( and then restoring them)
- firewall on/off on both machines
- user acount editing
- Computer name change
- SP2/SP3 installation/uninstalling/reinstalling
- Computer restart
- Router reboot
- cable/ connection check
- diagnostics

I will also list my ipconfig/all for 1 of the computers( It's partly edited from norwegian, but you get the picture):

Microsoft(R) Windows DOS

The two computers list very similar lists, only slightly different ip's and physical addresses.
I can't list everything, because I really don't remember anymore, but really I don't understand why this is a problem? It should not be this hard setting up a home network?

Please can someone help me? I have tried a LOT, so please not the usual 'turn off firewall' comments....

Thanx!
