Radeon X600 Series Card causing monitor issues

HELP!!!

I just bought a new DVI cable to run from my RADEON X600 video card to my Dell monitor. The RADEON X600 has two outs, a D-Sub (VGA) and DVI. Previous to this I had been using the VGA output, but I got a DVI cable for better quality. Anyway, I plug the DVI cable in to the DVI out on my video card, and when I turned on the monitor, all my graphics got set back to defaults, and when I go to my desktop and right click and go to properties and settings, it's acting like I have two monitors.

I think maybe it's acting like I have two monitors because I have the monitor plugged into the DVI port now, which is the second port on the video card...How do I tell my computer to use the DVI output for the ONLY monitor thats connected? And then how can I set my graphics back to higher quality? Every time I try right now it does some weird things but doesn't increase quality at all.
