So basically you get nothing when you power ON... no lights, no activity from HDD or CD drive, no images on screen.... as if you have not powered ON at all... is this correct?

Make sure your ac adapter is good and is giving out the correct voltage. Also make sure your battery has some charge at least. Power ON using one or the other (batts or AC). If you get the same thing, have the power ON button/switch checked... worse case is you have dead motherboard.
