CD Booting Problems
Hi everyone
First off my specs:
Acer Aspire 5100 with Windows XP Media Centre Ed. SP/2
AMD Turion 64 x2 TL-52 1.6 ghz
1022MB RAM
ATI Mobility Radeon X1300 512MB
My problem is concerning my CD/DVD drive when trying to boot from a Linux cd
I set the BIOS boot order to boot from CD, put in the CD and rebooted the laptop. All went well, the BIOS loaded, and it then went to a black screen, and the CD Drive kicked in, seeming to power up. After several seconds the copyright info for the version of Linux I was booting displayed on the screen, but then the CD Drive started to make repetative grinding noises, and the activity light on the tray stopped flashing. This would not cease until the CD tray was ejected, or the laptop restarted.
My CD/DVD drive is still capable of playing/burning CDs and DVD's even after these problems. Whenever i put these boot cd's in and try to view them with windows explorer, nothing is displayed. Im assuming this is because Windows doesnt recognise them.
My CD/DVD drive is listed as two seperate devices
One is a Slimtype DVDRW SSM-851gS
The other is a "ZO31731 VMR241C SCSI CD ROM Device
Both use standard Microsoft drivers.
I was wondering whether this problem is linked to my hardware or to Windows or the bootable cd
Thank you in advance for your time
Harry
