possible hdd problem. please help

Ok well here's my problem. I have two computers. One wont boot up anymore. It turns on but the monitor doesn't respond and i have a blank screen. So I took the hard drive out of that computer, and put it into the computer I just recently built to see if it would boot up. It turns on and right before it gets to load windows after self tests, it fails and reboots and repeats the process. it fails so i have the option to run safe mode, which i can successfully do. my question is, is this problem with the hard drive? Could it be messing up and not booting windows because it has all the drivers for the other computer still installed on it? the hard drive is basically brand new and so is the computer i'm trying to use it in. the 2 computers are completely different so they have VERY different drivers. different brand mobos (even different socket type), one has ATI and the other has nvidia.. etc.
if further specs are needed i'll post them but I wanted to see if anyone knows off hand. thanks guys!
