Write Protected

Copying file from My Documents to Simpletech ST68022CF 8gb USB mini drive. Dell laptop..company owned.

Receiving: "error copying file or folder...cannot copy file _______ The disk is write protected..Remove write-protection or use another disk"

Despite searching numerous help info topics in Microsoft related to this message and going to Simpletech site, I can't seem to find how to change write protection or for that matter how it became write protected in the first place. I have had this mini drive for 2-3 years saving files & photos as backup and just recently started receiving this message.

Q: Is this message related to the mini drive or is it related to the drive in the computer itself?

Either way how do I change write protection?
