Unmountable_boot_volume

Hi
i have Toshiba A100 Satellite pro which is about 2-2½ years old. It recently gave me a blue error screen when i tried to start it up. I have been reading alot about the error message "Unmountable_boot_volume".

I have tried to fix it with the chkdsk command. i tried to boot it with the recovery CD from Toshiba which is used to reinstall the whole computer.

I boot my computer with the CD press "f12" under start up. And chooses to boot from CD then it starts loading RAMDISK image as it normally does when using the recovery CD but when that is finished i get a dos prompt. CMD.exe or startnet.cmd. the name of the window is:"X:\i386\system32\cmd.exe - startnet.cmd. I imagine that this is the dos prompt that i should be getting to fix the error with the chkdsk command. But i can't type in one word in the dos prompt (if it is a dos prompt). Also i think it is wired that the name of the drive is X:
Look at the attached photo.

And also i didnt do anything to get the dos prompt open, i didnt press "r" or anything as recommanded other places. I also cant use the recovery CD to reinstall my whole computer.

I am thinking that my harddrive is dead and i need to get a new one?
or is the recovery CD from toshiba that cant be used for this task?

and other little thing. When its nearly finished with loading the ramdisk image it gives me the opportunity to press "f6" "if you need to install a third party SCSI or RAID driver. i have tried to press "f6" too. Its all included in the pictures

Thank you in advance for your help
