Hello everyone. I am staying at a friends house who is currently away and I have brought my laptop with me and thought connecting to the internet here would be the last of my troubles, but it is proving to be such a pain.

It is a VirginMedia Ambit Cable Modem, and my friends laptop connects to it soundly. But my laptop has troubles. Where my friends only takes 2 seconds to connect, mine takes over a minute to connect. And even though it says it is connected no web pages will load whatsoever. My internet works fine on my wireless connection at home, and at coffee shops throughout my city. I haven't a clue what is wrong. I am using XP on my laptop, and my friends laptop uses Vista.

My network card is a Realtek RTL8139/810x Family Fast
My friends is Realtek RTL8139/810x Family Fast Ethernet NIC
any difference there?

I have tried doing a CMD IPCONFIG /ALL and pinging various addresses there but all of them reply with time out or bad request. I cannot get a reply from a ping whatsoever. I will post IPCONFIGS from both my XP laptop and my friends laptop.

I had to type IPConfig out, as there is no way of me copying and pasting it onto this computer. I have come to this forum before for help and everyone has been most helpful and so I have returned with yet another dilemma.

I am not the most computer savvy but whatever anyone tells me to do I will try my best because every time I will have to attempt to use the internet on my laptop I will have to unplug and disconnect the cable from my friends laptop and plug into mine and then back into my friends to report back.

I hope I have been clear and can provide anymore info on request. Can I just add also, that I definitely cannot Ping my IP, a google ip or any sort of ip in cmd.
