Hi,
From the sounds of it you may have to replace it. The door not opening is a good indication. Is it stuck? Have you tried to open it manually (Paper clip through the very small hole on the front of the CD-ROM)?

XP not seeing it maybe another issue, but I want to see if we can get the door to open first.
