i think you can only get back ur data if you got the laptop turned on. but since it's not, and i don't have an answer for why, but if you want to stransfer files off ur c:\ then go to
http://www.cmsproducts.com/notebook_drive_removal.htm and see Inspiron 6000 and XPS Gen 2 under Dell. take out the hard drive.
