Re: christmas decorations

I went off of Xmas celebrations when I found out my wife wanted to do everything HER WAY ...

When the kids were small and my eldest daughter didn't even know what Xmas was, let alone her 8th December date of birth .. the decorations were up in time for the birthday celebrations. However as time went by and my wife became more and more engrossed with doing things her way .. I just left her to it .. Xmas was just one more of those things that egoists do to make people clap them on the back and say well done ..

Presents in my wifes eyes were not toys but clothes .. must make the kids look nice regardless of the fact that toys are educational and a prime requirement for raising a normal human being .. just something else that my kids were deprived of so that the egoist in her could have everyone standing around applauding the way she was bringing up the children .. because they were dressed nicely.

Then we have the commercialism of the festivities .. something that turns me off completely .. don't get me wrong .. I love the old carols , the lights and the singers , the idea of everyone getting together and being happy .. however when we see the overpriced plastic ornaments that were not manufactured to last more than one Xmas and of course next year we MUST have something different ..

It came to the point a few years ago that I volunteered to go abroad for Xmas rather than stay at home .. the tree wasn't even up by christmas eve (a situation that has slowly worsened year by year as "her indoors" has allowed other things to gain priority rather than prioritise with what is going on inside the home), the kids were grown and two had left home .. my son put up the tree alone ..

Nope .. not interested in Xmas, at least in my current environment! I am looking for a family thing where everyone plays a part and we all have a part to play

Shame I missed out on so many Xmases at my parents house, where everyone gathered around Xmas eve and or Xmas day for food drink and a good get together. Friends, relatives and immediate family.
Midnight Mass for those of us who were catholic .. and I assume the others went to their own services in their own churches since I come from a family where my Mum is a converted Catholic but both sides of the Family got along really well.

Xmas is just another day for me .. like my birthday or like a bank holiday .. so I suppose I'd better go get out my Humbug sign like Scrooge .. except that I really would love to celebrate in true fashion .. without the "dictator" telling me how to enjoy myself
