I tried with no RAM, and also I tried each stick of RAM by itself (2x256MB) and none of the configurations worked. I'm guessing that the fan which had been making wheezing sounds periodically since I got the laptop just quit and the CPU is dead.
Does that sound like a reasonable diagnosis? Or would you think there are more steps to troubleshoot? (ie..if the onboard fan had quit, maybe the mobo would auto-shutdown, and all it needs now is a new fan? or is that just wishful thinking? The dang fan is $30 minimum, or I would just go out and buy one to try it out..)
