[SOLVED] Endless BSOD after SP3 install, even in safe mode

I have just been helping with a laptop with Windows XP Home edition. First thing I noticed was that it was missing SP3, so I proceded with updating that. But when it rebooted after SP3 was successfully installed, it keeps BSOD'ing with what appears to be an 0x000000E7 error (it flashes by quickly, so hard to see) and just keeps on doing that over and over again, regardless of whether I select safe mode, last good known config or regular boot.

It gets to the welcome screen, makes the windows start up sound, then BSODs, no way to get into anything. :(

What can I do, I do not have a windowsXP home edition CD (apparently the laptop was shipped with XP Home installed, but has a WindowsXP Pro CD with it).

Also there's a lot of data on it that needs to be saved somehow, so not sure how to do this without losing anything.

Any help would be appreciated much.
