I have a Compaq Presario 3000 with two RAM slots. Each slot has 256 RAM for a total of 512 RAM.

I have 2 questions:

1) I notice there are times my fan kicks into a higher gear (becomes louder) then then later slows down (becomes quitter). Is that because I need more RAM? What can help solve that Problem?

2) Is it possible to only add one 512 RAM to one slot and leave the other slot with 256 for a total of 778 RAM? Or is it necessary to change both?
