Compaq V6000 Problems

I have a Compaq v6000 laptop (vista SP1)that I have been suffering along with for sometime. The wireless card does not work which is common for that model (i just have a usb wireless now) Another problem is that sometimes the laptop will decide that it has an external monitor and I have to hunt one down connect to it and reset the Nvidia settings.

I now have a new and much bigger problem. While I was writing a post on another board the computer screen flickered and then what was almost like some kind of cross between snow on a TV and a crazy multicolor screen saver. It continued for a little bit and I turned the laptop off. I can now not turn the laptop back on. It does not boot, nothing. The screen is not on. I tried to see if it was the usual external monitor problem but it is not. THe laptop turns on does nothing then turns it self off for a second and then turns itself back on again. I am decent at PC repairs but this is a new one for me. ANy help even just telling me what it is and that its time to buy a new laptop would be greatly appreciated. The battery seems fine and all the lights come on as normal it even checks the DVD drive.
Thanks!
