HP dv9000 boot up problem

Alright, heres the deal. I just got a new HP dv9000 about a week ago. The other day when I tried to start it up, it didn't. What its doing is this:

I hit the power button.
The keyboard lights up. I here the HD (i presume) start to wind up.
The keyboard goes dark.
Rinse and repeat. Over and over until I pull the power on it.

The power button doesn't respond either way (ie, i can't shut it down either) unless I hold any key on the keyboard for about 3 seconds. Then, the keyboard lights up again, and just stays that way, with the screen doing nothing. Once it's lit up, the power button will turn it off again.

At first I thought maybe the battery was just dead, but its fully charged now and still giving me the problem.

Its a week old, so it'll probably just end up going in for repairs under warranty, but if you guys have any idea it'd be helpful, even if just to give the techs an idea of whats wrong going in. Thanks.
