It could be the DC jack connection (this is on the laptop side). These (or at least most of them) can be repaired as they are just soldered on the motherboard. The part alone costs peanuts in eBay you just have to be sure you are getting the correct part (ask the seller). Replacing the part is a bit tricky. This would involve opening the laptop up and soldering the new DC jack connection into place.
