An officer has a warrant to arrest a known car thief. When he knocks on the door, a woman answers the door.
cop: "hi, i'm officer Jones, and i'm looking for a John Smith. Does he live here?"
woman: "yes, he does"
cop: "can i speak to him?"
woman: "well he just stepped out"
cop: "any idea how long he's going to be gone?"
woman: "no idea, he just left and said that he was going to drive to his friend's house"
cop: "oh, ok. what kind of car was he driving?"
woman: "a black and white crown victoria"
