Well if you didnt have thermal issues before - for example random restarts, crashes, freezes which were to heat problems then who cares about the diode ?
It sure isnt necessary to run your PC. Just ignore the wrong read temperature and keep your board. All i'd do is have an eye on the CPU fan - to make sure it always runs (maybe monitor the CPU FAN speed now instead of the CPU temp)... aslong as the fan runs your CPU is obviously fine.
