One thing I forgot to add:

The other day I put it down fairly hard when I was angry, and it continued to work fine for the rest of the night without an issue, it was the following night when I went to start up my laptop when I received the horrid BSOD.

Could that have been why this happened? And if so, why didn't it mess up straight away instead of the next time I started my laptop up?
