Easiest thing I'd try is simply uninstalling the old programs/versions completely then reinstalling the current versions.

Go into your control panel and into programs and features and uninstall all instances or versions of Java Runtime Environment.
*note, Java sucks, when you install new versions, the old version stays as well, so you're just adding to used space. I ALWAYS delete the old version of java first, then install the new version.

Do this with flash as well. Flash and Shockwave alike are available from the adobe website and are quick and easy to install. Uninstall the old version of flash from the control panel and install latest flash version.

I use firefox.

Latest Adobe Flash update here: Adobe Flash Player version 9.0.124.0
