Hi,
Can you be a bit more specific in describing the noises you were getting from the pc. Was it the warning beeps you usually get from a motherboard when something is wrong?
A sreaming noise? A grinding noise?

If your CPU cooler is loose then obviously the processor will overheat and the system should shut-down.
Continuing to use the pc when the processors heatsink is loose will cause damage to the processor, and more than likely to your motherboard also.
Have you checked the heatsink & fan to see if they are secure?
