It is possible. That is why I listed reasons why it might not be recognized ;-)
You need to disable the built-in floppy controller and possibly enable some USB options to get the drive to be recognized. All that is done in the BIOS. Keep the floppy inside the drive. You want to see a flash of green color when the system is starting up. I've had instances where an empty drive would not get recognized properly.
