Thanks but there isn't any firmware update for this dvd writer. That was what Nero and HP ask me to do the first time and i checked that before they wrote back. Every time i made a call to HP they told me they could not hear me and sometimes they said i was breaking up and for me to call back at a later time and i have done made 15 calls to HP and every time it's the same old thing. I just will not buy anymore HP products at all and i could have at the time i got this writer Liteon cheaper and it had everything this HP does and yesterday i checked and they had a samsung that writes everything just for 79.97 and if the store would take this thing back i would get the samsung for sure. I have tried everything in the book to get it to write to my dvd+rw's and i have used 30 of them and they just will not work even the ones i paid 59.99 for 100 of them on sale. Got to go mow a yard now in this HOT weather and i will come back and try and do something to get it to work and call HP again.
